May to September (dry season) is best for safaris, with sparse vegetation and animals near water. November to March suits Cape Town and the beaches. The shoulder months balance both.
Usually 10 to 14 days: 3 to 4 nights on safari in Kruger or a private reserve, 3 to 4 in Cape Town, 2 in the Winelands, with the Garden Route as an optional extension.
Parts of Kruger are malaria-considered, so precautions are advised, though malaria-free private reserves are also available. Cape Town and the Winelands are malaria-free. Take current medical advice.
