There is no non-stop flight from Kolkata to Tanzania, so the connection matters. We usually build around an evening departure from Dum Dum, one stop in the Gulf and a morning arrival in Kilimanjaro, with a rest night near Arusha before the safari begins. If you have looked for tigers in the Sundarbans, the Serengeti is the opposite experience: lions, cheetahs and vast herds out on open grassland.

Kolkata to Tanzania: airport, flight routes and transfers
Every Tanzania trip from Kolkata uses one connection. Choosing it well decides your journey time, arrival airport and whether you need a yellow fever vaccine.
Kolkata (CCU) to Tanzania
- Via Dubai: evening departures from CCU with onward flights to Dar es Salaam, and to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar on the Dubai low-cost carrier.
- Via Doha: onward flights to Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, a flexible option for open-jaw trips.
- Via Abu Dhabi: a good option for Dar es Salaam.
- Via Mumbai: a domestic flight of about 2.5–3 hours to connect with the Air Tanzania non-stop to Dar es Salaam, which leaves Mumbai before dawn.
Within Tanzania
- Kilimanjaro / Arusha to the parks: road drives to Tarangire and Ngorongoro, and light-aircraft flights into the Serengeti.
- Serengeti to Zanzibar: a light-aircraft or domestic flight via Arusha.
- Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar: a 20-minute flight or a fast ferry.
Kolkata travel tips
The airport is in Dum Dum, north-east of the city. From Salt Lake or New Town allow 30–45 minutes; from Park Street, Ballygunge or South Kolkata allow 1–1.5 hours in evening traffic.
Puja-week departures are among the busiest of the year at CCU, so reach the airport early and check in online as soon as it opens.
Light aircraft in Tanzania usually allow about 15 kg per person in soft bags. Families can leave extra luggage at the Arusha hotel.
