Norway Northern Lights Package
Tromso or Alta with guided aurora chases and Arctic activities.
- Best months: late September to March
- Suggested length: 6–8 days, 3+ aurora nights
- Best for: Durga Puja and the winter break
Trade Kolkata's heat and humidity for cool fjords, or plan your Puja and winter breaks around the Northern Lights.
Our Norway tour packages from Kolkata are built around the moments Kolkata travellers most want a change from. In the build-up to the monsoon, between April and June, while the city sits hot and humid, Norway's fjords are cool and green, with daylight that barely ends. Around Durga Puja and through the winter break, while Kolkata enjoys its own mild, festive season, Arctic Norway offers crisp air, snow and a genuine chance to see the Northern Lights.
We take care of the parts that make Norway tricky to plan alone: the one-stop flight from Kolkata, the timing of the Flam Railway and fjord cruises, domestic flights to Tromso or Alta, hotels that suit Indian families, and Schengen visa documentation for travellers based in Eastern India.

There is no non-stop flight from Kolkata to Norway, so every trip includes one connection. The right hub depends on your arrival city and the time of year.
International flights leave from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum. From Salt Lake or New Town allow 30–45 minutes; from Howrah or South Kolkata allow 45–75 minutes depending on traffic.
Book Norway's trains, cruises and domestic flights only after your Kolkata sector is fixed, as winter delays and summer sell-outs can break tight connections.
For winter trips, buy thermal base layers in Kolkata before you go, since they are hard to source locally once you land. Heavy thermal suits are usually provided on Arctic tours.

For summer trips, book fjord cruises, the Flam Railway and family rooms 3–6 months ahead. For Puja, Christmas and New Year, book 4–8 months ahead given the shared demand from Kolkata's own festive travel season. Read more in our guide to Christmas holidays in Norway.

No. There is currently no non-stop flight between Kolkata and Norway. Most travellers connect once through a Gulf hub such as Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi, or route via Delhi or Mumbai onto a European carrier, and land in Oslo. Total journey time is usually 13-18 hours.
Seven to ten days works well for Oslo, the Flam Railway, the fjords and Bergen. If you are adding Tromso or Alta for the Northern Lights, or Sweden and Denmark, plan 10 to 14 days to account for the connection time from Kolkata.
Norway is one of Europe’s more expensive destinations. The cost depends on the season, hotel category, scenic rail and fjord cruises, Arctic experiences and flights out of Kolkata. We share an exact quote once your dates and route are fixed, and our Norway trip cost guide gives typical budgets.
Indian passport holders need a Schengen visitor visa. You fill in the online application, then give your biometrics and documents at a visa application centre serving Eastern India. Norway does not have a consulate in Kolkata, so always confirm the current filing location on the official Norway in India visa page before booking. Apply at least six to eight weeks before travel, as peak-season appointments fill quickly.
Yes. When Kolkata is hot, humid and heading into the monsoon between April and June, Norway’s fjord country is usually a cool 15°C to 22°C, with very long daylight hours and, in the Arctic north, the Midnight Sun.
Yes. The Puja break in September-October lines up with the start of the aurora season in northern Norway and with pleasant, crisp autumn weather in the fjords, while avoiding the peak-summer crowds and prices.
The aurora season in northern Norway runs from around late September to early April, which covers Durga Puja, Christmas and the New Year break. Clear, dark skies matter most, so we plan three or more nights in Tromso or Alta. The lights can never be guaranteed.
Thermal base layers, a fleece, a warm insulated jacket, gloves, a woollen hat and waterproof boots with good grip, none of which Kolkata’s climate calls for day to day. Many Northern Lights tours in Tromso provide heavy thermal suits, so you do not need to buy full Arctic gear before you fly.
Yes. Scenic trains, fjord cruises, museums and easy nature walks work well for children. We keep transfer days manageable given the long connection from Kolkata, and choose family rooms, which can be limited in Norway, well in advance.
Vegetarian food is easy to find in Oslo and Bergen, which also have Indian restaurants. In remote fjord villages and Arctic lodges, choices are smaller, so we share your dietary needs with hotels in advance.
Yes. One Schengen visa covers all of them. Popular combinations include Oslo, the fjords and Stockholm, or Tromso with Finnish Lapland in winter, useful for making the most of the long connection from Kolkata.
International flights can be included or quoted separately. We help you choose a connection from Kolkata, typically via Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Delhi or Mumbai, that fits your onward trains, fjord cruises or domestic flights within Norway.
Payments are made in INR through Indian banking channels. GST and TCS apply to overseas tour packages; TCS can be claimed against your income tax. The payment schedule and cancellation terms are shared before you confirm.
